I am an associate professor in philosophy at the University of Ghent. My current research project, The Ethics of Loneliness', is supported by an ERC Starting Grant.
Besides loneliness and sociability, my research interests include e.g. migration; cultural and religious diversity; political extremism; social taboos, friendship; love; end-of-life care; family ethics; and medical ethics. I was previously a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Zurich (Switzerland); Umea University (Sweden); KU Leuven (Belgium); and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity in Göttingen (Germany). My academic background is in political science (PhD, MRes, European University Institute); philosophy (MPhil, St Andrews; MA, King's College London); law (LLM Aberystwyth University); and Arts and Culture (BA, Maastricht University). In 2015, I was a visiting student research collaborator at Princeton University.
